IN THE WAKE OF THE VIKING 2019 EXPEDITION CRUISE A Voyage From Iceland To Greenland

July 14 - 25, 2019

People travel from around the world to experience the geological wonders of Iceland, yet very few people discover the wild shores of Greenland. We combine these two fascinating and different landscapes for a voyage of discovery above and below the water! Villages around Greenland’s southern tip offer glimpses of Greenlandic culture. Bask in the Unartoq geothermal springs. Explore the ruins of Brattelid—a settlement founded by Erik the Red! Kangaamiut is a quaint fishing village. Greenland’s capital, Nuuk, offers shopping and dining. We’ll sail mighty Sondre Stromfjord to our destination, Kangerlussuaq—gateway to Greenland’s ice cap. Whales and seabirds are abundant here. Photographers, birders, and hikers will be in awe.

Highlights of the Trip:

  • Wander the streets of Nuuk, Greenland’s dynamic capital
  • Visit Erik the Red’s former estate at Brattahlid, UNESCO World Heritage Site
  • Visit the Norse ruins at Hvalsey, abandoned in the1400s
  • Experience village life in tiny Greenlandic fishing hamlets
  • Get close to glaciers, calving mighty icebergs
  • Experience east Greenland’s pristine, stunning fjords
  • Search for whales while following the Viking route across Denmark Strait to Greenland

Each day, you will explore the crystal-clear Arctic waters of fjords carved eons ago by glaciers. You’ll travel to sheltered inlets and bays that hold ancient secrets of the Inuit people and early European explorers—and be one of the lucky few on board to bring home tales of more than what’s above the water!

Topside, you will accompany Adventure Canada guides on Zodiac tours and hikes to abandoned settlements, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and educational sessions to Inuit communities big and small. You’ll be on the ground in areas rich with Arctic culture, history, and wildlife!

This tour can’t be all fun and games though—so there are plenty of relaxation opportunities to break up the days. Kick back and enjoy the fully stocked library, visit the sauna and on-deck hot tub, and share some tales with other patrons over a drink in one of the many lounge rooms or spacious outer decks.
