An experience to tickle all of your senses and create an adventure food memory to last a lifetime! From the incredible scenery that will surround you, the smell of the fresh salty air, the rich history of Conception Bay South and then of course, satisfying your belly with some of the finest traditional foods of Newfoundland and Labrador prepared and served onboard our 42’ cabin cruiser.
Departing from Sunset Keys Marina in CBS, guests will get an up close and personal view of the waters and marine life that are so well known in our province. As the boat motor chugs along, Lori from Cod Sounds provides a brief history and insight into Newfoundland and Labradors fishing and harvesting industries. As she describes the cod fish, lobsters, scallops, and other marine based food that sustained our province for so long, you look into the water and wonder just how many of those species are swimming around below you right now. As you observe the wonderful scenery around you in awe, the boat slowly drifts to a stop and picks up the mooring ball just off the sheer cliff faces of Bell Island. The iron ore deposits stain the cliffs that tower above you, you admire their beauty and watch as a bald eagle circles overhead, searching for the same prey that you are about to learn about
After the Mermaid is safely secured at the mooring ball, Lori presents her first dish for your enjoyment. Her meal today may consist of mackerel freshly caught near Bay Roberts, or perhaps some scallops that were caught just before the trip departed. As you admire the fresh scallops, one of our guide divers pops out of the water with a scallop in-hand. This gives a whole new meaning to the word, “sea food”. As Lori presents each of her dishes she talks about each cuisine deliberately. Not only explaining what the are, but how to catch and cook them. As she describes each step to you, its apparent her passion for Newfoundland cuisine is strong, and that she’s seen (and tried) it all. Your senses begin to get overwhelmed with the smell of fish and home-made treats and the colorful spread of wild edibles.
After filling your stomach with some of the most traditional Newfoundland cuisine you can experience, you sit back and take a breath.
WOW, what a meal that was! As the last dessert course is packed up and put away, skipper Bill fires up the motor and slowly slips away from the mooring ball. As you head back to marina you can confidently say that you’ve finally eaten like a true Newfoundlander!
