Sustainable Tourism Award

A high quality tourism experience depends on the conservation of our natural resources, the protection of our environment and the preservation of our cultural heritage. The tourism industry in Newfoundland and Labrador recognizes that the long term sustainability of tourism in Newfoundland and Labrador depends on delivering a high quality product and a continuing welcoming spirit among our employees and within our host communities. It depends as well on the wise use and conservation of our natural resources; the protection and enhancement of our environment; and the preservation of our cultural, historic and aesthetic resources. Presented by HNL and Canadian Heritage/Parks Canada to the industry operator who has made strides in sustainable tourism practices and continually works toward the protection of our natural and cultural resources.

Parks Canada Sustainable Tourism Award

The criteria established for the Parks Canada Sustainable Tourism Award reflect the three pillars of sustainable tourism development-economic viability, environmental sustainability, and cultural appropriateness. The recipient of this award has made a contribution to practising and promoting sustainable tourism in Canada by:

Demonstrating a commitment to excellence and encouraging an appreciation of, and respect for, Canada's natural, cultural and aesthetic heritage; Striving to achieve tourism development in a manner which harmonizes economic objectives with the protection and enhancement of Canada's natural and cultural heritage; Cooperating with colleagues and the tourism industry in promoting sustainable development; Offering tourism products and services that are consistent with community values and the surrounding environment; and Fostering greater awareness of the economic, social, cultural and environmental significance of tourism.

Conception Bay South Tourism Award 2006

The Town of Conception Bay South has established a tourism award which will be presented annually to mark Tourism Awareness Days, celebrated in June.

The award will be presented to a group or individual that has contributed to the growth and development of the Town's tourism sector. The award will recognize efforts that demonstrate: Commitment to customer service, Promotion of the Town of Conception Bay South, Development of a product or service for the tourism sector.

Ocean Net Award

An alliance with divers and dive groups in Newfoundland and Labrador with Ocean Net dates from it’s founding in 1997. This is one of the strengths of Ocean Net's environmental mandate, and specifically its core initiative - the beach, shoreline and underwater cleanup program. The annual "Divers Award of Excellence" was developed by this organization in 2005 to recognize exemplary support of Ocean Net programs and initiatives on behalf of the marine environment by a diver or dive group.

Ocean Quest was chosen as the 2006 recipient of Ocean Net's "Divers Award of Excellence" in recognition of its exemplary support of our underwater environment and its dedication to furthering the programs and initiatives of Ocean Net.
