Dive Site Spotlight: The Clapper

Outside the sea tunnel, and surrounding the clapper, you'll find depths ranging from 20-40 feet. It is one of the best spots to see all the "usual suspects" in terms of marine life: skates, eel pouts, flounders, etc. The bottom is mixed, ranging from sand to rocks, and you'll see ridges to deeper depths as youhead out to sea from the Clapper.

The best thing about the Clapper is the lighting. It is in such a position that it has undetered access to the sun, from sunrise to sunset. As long as it's not a cloudy day, you are guaranteed a great dive at the Clapper. As our Dive Shop manager, John Olivero states: "It's just a really good dive, with a taste of adventure. On a bright day, you'll have amazing views in all direction and it creates an atmosphere which make you say 'This is what diving is all about'."

Ocean Quest provides daily dive charters to Bell Island, which includes the Clapper.
